Prior to founding Outset, Mat was a founding team member of LanzaTech, where he worked across the United States, Europe, and Asia to help build one of the world’s leading industrial biotechnology companies. He later founded and co-founded multiple deep-tech ventures, including Dotterel Technologies (UAV noise-reduction and audio systems) and Mint Innovation (biometallurgical recovery of precious and critical metals from electronic waste). Earlier in his career, he held senior technical and operational roles across bioscience and engineering, including leading R&D field trials at BioConsortia.

Formally trained in Chemical and Materials Engineering and Biotechnology, Mat brings over 25 years’ experience operating at the intersection of science, engineering, and commercialisation. He currently serves on the board of Reactory and is a member of the Auckland Mayor’s Tech and Innovation Alliance. Outside of work, he enjoys getting outdoors, running, nerdy conversations, and exploring new parts of the world.
