Renata is the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Whātua.
Since 2013, Renata has been a Director on the Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Trust Board, helping drive significant social, cultural, and economic initiatives for the people of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei. He is also director on Whai Rawa, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei’s commercial subsidiary which is valued at around $1.5bn.
From 2016 to 2022, he also served on the Independent Māori Statutory Board, championing greater Māori participation in local government decision-making across Tāmaki Makaurau. He has also served as a director for Harrison Grierson, AUT University and Eden Park.
Renata (Ngāti Whātua) has a career spanning 25 years in business and finance including previously holding the role as General Manager, Māori Business at Bank of New Zealand. He brings more than 20 years of governance, strategic, and executive leadership experience across both public and private sectors, serving hapū and wider Māori communities.
Demonstrating leadership experience and commitment to Māori prosperity, Te Reo Māori and tikanga Māori, he now brings that experience home to his iwi and Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Whātua.
When Renata isn’t busy leading the Rūnanga, you’ll likely find him out surfing the waves, or catching a flight to somewhere relaxing. He has a wide taste in music, plays guitar ok(‘ish), and his favourite dish to cook is seafood risotto.
